Fr. San Juan Re-elected CEAP President
Ateneo de Davao University President Fr. Karel S. San Juan, SJ, has been re-elected as President of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), the national association of Catholic schools, colleges, and universities.
Fr. San Juan was among the officers introduced for the 2026 to 2027 term at the closing Mass of the CEAP National Convention 2026 (SUGBU 2026), held in September at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel in Lahug. The newly elected officers took their oath of office before the final blessing.
A renewed mandate
The Ateneo de Davao community welcomed Fr. San Juan’s re-election, expressing joy over the trust placed in him as he continues his service to CEAP and to Catholic education across the country. The University said it hopes the mandate will further strengthen Catholic education in the Philippines, guided by faith, service, and a shared commitment to forming students and school communities for the common good.
The Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) also congratulated Fr. San Juan. The committee expressed its hope for his leadership and support as it works to develop and promote private education in the Philippines.
Fr. San Juan first assumed the CEAP presidency in 2024, succeeding Fr. Albert Delvo of the Diocese of Novaliches, during the association’s national convention at SMX Lanang in Davao City. He has served as AdDU President since September 2023, and previously led Ateneo de Zamboanga University from 2013 to 2023.
About the convention and CEAP
This year’s convention gathered more than 3,500 Catholic educators and education stakeholders under the theme “Newness in Catholic Education: Charting a Constellation of Hope.” Founded in 1941, CEAP counts more than 1,500 member schools nationwide.
The four-day assembly focused on expanding access to education for marginalized communities while sustaining holistic formation amid rapid social change. It also recognized 58 jubilarian schools for their years of service and welcomed new member institutions into the association.
