ADDU Receives DOST-PCIEERD Support Under P136-M IMPACT NXT Program
Ateneo de Davao University is among the 25 higher education institutions (HEIs) nationwide to receive support from the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) under its IP Management for Academic and Research Institutions Commercializing Technologies (IMPACT) NXT Program.
The nationwide program carries a total investment of P136 million and is designed to strengthen participating universities’ technology transfer and intellectual property (IP) management capacities. For Ateneo de Davao, this means an 18-month push to improve how the University protects, manages, and eventually commercializes research and technologies developed on campus, with the goal of moving research outputs closer to real-world products, services, and enterprises.
About IMPACT NXT
IMPACT NXT is a nationwide DOST-PCIEERD initiative that helps HEIs and research institutions build or strengthen the systems needed to protect and commercialize the technologies they produce. The program also invests directly in people, providing capability-building for technology transfer officers on IP protection, technology valuation, marketing, licensing, and commercialization, which are the skills often needed to move a research finding from a laboratory or classroom into a usable product or service.
HEIs are further supported in assessing their existing research outputs to determine technologies that have the strongest potential for commercialization, and in disclosing and protecting qualifying inventions through appropriate IP mechanisms.
DOST-PCIEERD has positioned the program as part of a broader push to help publicly funded research translate into economic growth, industry competitiveness, and national development, with HEIs like Ateneo de Davao University expected to become more active contributors to the country’s innovation ecosystem.
What is next for Ateneo de Davao
Over the next 18 months, Ateneo de Davao will work through these program components to move its research outputs closer to real-world application, with the aim of turning university-generated technologies into products, services, and partnerships that benefit both industry and the broader community.
