Engr. Josef Rene L. Villanueva Appointed as New Chairperson of the Electronics Engineering Department

The Ateneo de Davao School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) welcomes Engr. Josef Rene L. Villanueva as the new Chairperson of the Department of Electronics Engineering, effective 1 September 2026 to 31 May 2028.
The appointment was made at the recommendation of Dr. Renyl B. Barroca, Dean of the School of Engineering and Architecture, and with the endorsement of Dr. Renante D. Pilapil, Vice President for Higher Education.
Engr. Villanueva is a long-serving member of the Department of Electronics Engineering faculty, holding a Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Electronics Engineering, both earned at Ateneo de Davao University. His areas of interest include electronics and communications engineering and embedded electronics.
Further, Engr. Villanueava has contributed to multidisciplinary research undertaken through the University’s engineering research community, including work connected to the Center for Renewable Energy and Appropriate Technologies (CREATE).
As Chairperson, Engr. Villanueva will lead the Department of Electronics Engineering in advancing its program educational objectives, specifically strengthening technical competencies in communication and computer networks, electronic systems design and fabrication, and power electronics and renewable energy, while fostering research, innovation, and ethical leadership among its faculty and students.
The University congratulates Engr. Villanueva on his appointment and looks forward to his continued leadership and service to the Department of Electronics Engineering and the broader School of Engineering and Architecture community.
