Natural Sciences and Mathematics Cluster

Bridging theoretical concepts of science and practical laboratory, the Natural Sciences and Mathematics cluster cultivates an attitude of scientific inquiry, critical thinking, experimentation, and robust research. Students in this cluster are equipped to master the natural world, developing logical problem-solving skills and ethical awareness essential to excel in the business, research, teaching, or medical profession.

Composed of five departments, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Environmental Science, the cluster moves beyond simple experimentation to foster genuine innovation in service for Mindanao and beyond.

Biology Department

The Biology Department is structured to meet the needs of professional biologists who can be employed in government, private or self-enterprise where scientists with biological expertise are needed. Their graduates are also trained to be teachers and researchers in the various areas of Biology. In addition, the program satisfies the requirements for admission to medical education. The Department also services the University in core courses and electives related to Biology.

Bachelor of Science in Biology, Major in General Biology
Bachelor of Science in Biology, Major in Medical Biology

Chemistry Department

The Chemistry Department aims to provide students with the best preparation for their chosen career. It teaches and trains students to: acquire firm foundation in the basic fields of inorganic, organic, analytical, biochemistry and physical chemistry; practice scientific method for investigation; develop the attitude of inquiry and critical thinking in the acquisition of scientific knowledge; have a clear understanding of the orderly nature of the universe as exemplified in chemical processes; be able to formulate fundamental principles; develop active awareness of the environment created by technological advances as well as interpret and understand the principles of its conservation; develop their potential for leadership through community extension work; and be proficient in chemistry so as to grow in full stature as useful citizens and professionals in such diverse careers in the chemical (and other physical) industries, the medical professions and health services, teaching, engineering and research positions.
