52nd Reading Association of the Philippines (RAP) National Demofest Convenes at AdDU

Educators and literacy advocates from across the country convened at Ateneo de Davao University for the opening day of the 52nd RAP National Demofest on 12-13 June 2026 at the Bapa Benny Tudtud Auditorium, Jacinto Campus.

Anchored on the theme “Teaching Across the Literacy Continuum: From Foundational Literacy to Multiliteracies,” the conference opened with messages from Mr. Jeremy S. Eliab, Vice President for Administration of Ateneo de Davao University, and Dr. Ma. Joahna Mante-Estacio, RAP President, followed by an orientation to the conference led by Dr. Portia P. Padilla, Reading Association of the Philippines (RAP) Conference Chair.

The first day featured a keynote address by Dr. Dina S. Ocampo of the University of the Philippines Diliman on understanding the literacy continuum and its implications for teaching practice. This was followed by plenary sessions from Assistant Professor Marie Yvette Concepcion-Alcazar, MAEd, and Dr. Mark Gleen Cidro, who explored approaches that support literacy development through joyful learning and meaningful application.

On the second day, participants attended plenary sessions led by Dr. Marie Grace Reoperez of the University of the Philippines Diliman, who discussed addressing inequalities in content learning through responsive literacy instruction, and Ms. Virgilind Palarca of MindaNews and the Mindanao Institute of Journalism, who explored developing media and information literacy from the early years of learning.

Throughout the two-day conference, participants engaged in parallel teaching demonstrations and workshops covering foundational, critical, media and information, cultural, digital, and adolescent literacy. The gathering affirms the role of educators in building inclusive and responsive literacy practices for diverse learning communities.

As the event came to a close, participants carried forward new perspectives and strengthened commitments toward creating more inclusive, relevant, and transformative literacy learning experiences.
