Physics Dept Concludes Three-Part Applied Physics Symposium Series

The Ateneo de Davao Physics Department concluded its Symposium on Applied Physics and Emerging Technologies on 17 September 2026, with a final session held at Ateneo de Davao University Senior High School, capping a series that reached four schools across Davao City since its launch in August.

Symposium series timeline

The symposium began on 7 August 2026 at the Philippine Science High School – Davao Region Campus. It later expanded to Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School and Davao City National High School on the 4th of September before concluding with a session held on the university’s own campus, closing out an initiative that reached senior high school students across four institutions in under two months.

Physics Department Chairperson Dr. Belinda F. Faustino opened the final session, reiterating the symposium’s goal of exposing senior high school students to the range of applications within Physics and the career pathways the field offers.

Speakers return for final session

The symposium’s four recurring speakers returned for the closing leg: Dominador F. Vaso, Jr., a PhD candidate in Physics; Andelson L. Berondo, MSc, a Medical Physicist and Assistant Professor at Ateneo de Davao University; Jonathan N. Patricio, a PhD candidate in Materials Science and Engineering; and Jose Presiphil B. Ontolan, Jr., PhD in Physics.

Across the three-part series, the speakers connected the fundamentals of Physics, Medical Physics, Materials Science, and Nanotechnology to real-world applications, discussing career paths ranging from radiotherapy and diagnostic imaging to the growing role of materials science in everyday technology.

Series officially concludes

With its final leg complete, the department concludes a symposium series aimed at expanding senior high school students’ exposure to Physics beyond the classroom, ahead of their entry into higher education and eventual career decisions.
