ADDU Granted Institutional Accreditation Status by FAAP
Ateneo de Davao University has been granted Institutional Accreditation Status by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP), following a resolution passed during the FAAP Board meeting on 9 September 2026. The accreditation is valid until May 2029.
The formal notification was addressed to Fr. Karel S. San Juan, SJ, University President, by Ricardo R. Palo, Executive Director of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities, Inc. (PAASCU), which serves as the secretariat body of FAAP.
What Institutional Accreditation Means
Institutional accreditation evaluates a university not by individual programs, but as a whole institution. It recognizes the quality of an institution’s systems and its capacity to fulfill its educational mission, sustain academic quality, and pursue continuous improvement.
The scope covers leadership and governance, quality assurance, resource management, teaching and learning, student support, research, and community engagement.
For Ateneo de Davao University, this recognition affirms what the university community has long been committed to: a formation-centered education that is rigorous, responsive, and rooted in its Catholic and Jesuit mission.
What This Means for the ADDU Community
In his memorandum to the University community (Memorandum No. 2026-0080, dated 10 September 2026), Fr. San Juan noted that this milestone carries a continuing responsibility for every sector of the institution.
For students and families, the accreditation provides assurance of institutional quality and reinforces the value of active participation in feedback and improvement processes.
For faculty and academic leaders, it calls for sustained attention to effective teaching, meaningful assessment, relevant research, and the formation of students.
For administrators and staff, it reinforces the responsibility to provide responsive services, maintain reliable records, use resources responsibly, and improve university systems.
For alumni and partners, it affirms the importance of continued collaboration in advancing the university’s educational and social mission.
A Recognition Belonging to the Whole Community
The University President acknowledged the administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners whose dedication made this recognition possible, with special acknowledgment of those who supported the accreditation preparations, documentation, and review.
“May this milestone renew our shared commitment to excellence in education, whole-person formation, and service to Mindanao, in fidelity to our Catholic and Jesuit mission,” Fr. San Juan wrote.
All units are invited to sustain their quality assurance efforts, use evidence and community feedback to guide improvements, and attend to applicable accreditation recommendations as part of their regular planning and review.
