The Jesuits define their mission as the service of faith, of which the promotion of justice is an absolute requirement. At the Ateneo, social justice is the standard against which the University measures itself.
It asks that education reach those who could not otherwise afford it, which is why the scholarship program exists and why Ateneans Helping Ateneans continues it. It asks that research serve the marginalized, that policy work defend democracy and human rights, and that graduates enter their professions with a preferential option for the poor.
The common good is bigger than any interest: it is the flourishing of all, especially the least, the lost, and the last. The Ateneo de Davao University forms leaders for government, business, and civil society who understand wealth as something to be created and distributed equitably, power as something to be exercised accountably, and freedom as something everyone must share for anyone to keep.
Not Our Hope. Our Assignment.
A just society is the work the University was founded for, and the work it hands to every graduate.
