Fr. Antonio M. Basilio, SJ, PhD, Appointed as New VP for Research, Innovations, and Community Engagement
Upon the approval of the Board of Trustees during its Regular Meeting on 9 May 2026, Ateneo de Davao University is pleased to announce the appointment of Fr. Antonio M. Basilio, SJ, PhD, as the Vice President for Research, Innovations, and Community Engagement.
His 3-year term officially commenced on 01 June 2026. In this capacity, Fr. Basilio will lead the university’s strategic efforts to advance institutional research, drive sustainable innovation, and strengthen impactful community engagement initiatives.
Fr. Basilio brings to this role a research record anchored in green chemistry, renewable energy, and the valorization of agricultural waste, with ISI-indexed publications, DOST-funded projects, and a registered utility model patent. His academic formation spans Ateneo de Manila University and National Taiwan University, where he completed his doctorate through the Taiwan International Graduate Program in Nanoscience and Technology. He currently serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and as Rector of the Jesuit Community at ADDU.
From 01 June to 30 June 2026, Fr. Basilio will concurrently serve as Vice President for Higher Education while the search for his successor in that office proceeds. This period will be used deliberately to begin integrating the work of both offices, grounded in the University’s conviction that instruction, research, and community engagement are not separate functions but dimensions of a single academic mission.
The Ateneo community is invited to work with him in advancing the university’s mission of excellence in research, innovation, and community-centered service.
