Language, Literature, and Arts
The Department of Languages, Literature, and Arts serves the needs of AB English and AB IDS students as well as other programs requiring language subjects. Under the department are two language centers: the Matteo Ricci Mandarin Program which focuses on the promotion of Mandarin language and Chinese culture; and the Ateneo Language Center which offers instruction in English, Filipino, Cebuano, Nihonggo, and Spanish among others.
Aside from language training, the department also prepares students to have a keen appreciation of the processes and products of human creativity and culture, particularly literature and the Arts. This training aims to form individuals who can express themselves creatively in any chosen endeavor, discriminate among human values and live according to those values essential to their development as persons for others.

Philosophy
The Philosophy Department ushers students in their quest for a deeper understanding and appreciation of the complexity and richness of human existence. It seeks to develop students who possess thoughtful and discerning way of life by guiding them to reflect on the taken-for-granted assumptions about God, Good, Truth, Nature, Beauty and Human Self. Inspired by the Ignatian ideal of being persons for others, it also aims to form students who are imbued with the commitment to work for the common good and social justice.
The Philosophy Department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. These programs intend to form well-rounded students who are critically aware of the nature, history, global issues and current debates within the realm of philosophy as well as effectively able to integrate their different learning experiences into a meaningful totality. It seeks to produce graduates who, depending on their chosen endeavor—whether as lawyers, teachers, business people, or public servants, among others—are discursive, critical, discerning, ethical agents of social change.
