The Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) Rocketry Team has arrived in Los Angeles for the upcoming Spaceport America Cup 2024, the world’s largest intercollegiate rocketry competition. The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Los Angeles welcomed them on June 13, 2024, before they departed for New Mexico the following day. Personally welcomed by the Deputy Consul General and Acting Head of Post, Ms. Maria Alnee A. Gamble and Consul Francis Maynard S. Maleon as they gave their well wishes to the team and reminded them to enjoy their time alongside like-minded individuals among their competitors.

The AdDU Rocketry Team, composed of the 10 college students and their 3 mentors, headed by Dr. Rogel Mari Sese, proceeded to the competition on June 17-22, located in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Rocketry Team students are from AdDU’s very own Aerospace Engineering Department, the only university that offers the Aerospace Program in the Philippines.

This is a groundbreaking moment as AdDU becomes the first in the Philippines to have a team participate in the Spaceport America Cup. In this competition, teams from the best Rocket-Engineering Programs from different universities across the world will be competing in different categories.
