Davao City, November 20, 2023 – The Acacia Hotel in Davao City played host to the gathering of minds dedicated to shaping a cleaner and more sustainable energy future for Mindanao at the Mindanao Clean Energy Forum 2023 X RE Congress. Among the distinguished attendees was Fr. Karel San Juan, SJ, the president of Ateneo de Davao University, underlining the university’s commitment to driving positive change in the region.
The forum, organized by the Mindanao Renewable Energy Acceleration and Coordination Hub (Mindanao REACH), saw leaders from various sectors, including government organizations, academic institutions, and advocacy groups. The aim of the event was to propel Mindanao towards achieving an ambitious goal: a 50% renewable energy (RE) mix by 2030.
Ateneo de Davao University is proud to be part of this significant initiative. And we believe that education plays a vital role in driving awareness and inspiring action towards cleaner, renewable energy sources.
The Mindanao REACH serves as a collaborative platform for knowledge sharing, capacity building, and advocacy. Its overarching objective is to promote energy transition strategies, with a particular focus on leveraging renewable energy to support poverty alleviation efforts. The forum facilitated discussions on innovative approaches, technological advancements, and policy recommendations to accelerate the adoption of clean energy in the region.
The establishment of Mindanao REACH is the result of a joint initiative between the Mindanao Development Authority, the Peace Equity Access for Community Empowerment Foundation (PEF), and the Mindanao Renewable Energy Center (MREC) at Ateneo de Davao University. The hub has received crucial funding support from TARA, highlighting the collaborative effort required to address the energy challenges faced by Mindanao.
As the forum concluded, participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to contribute to the realization of a sustainable energy future in Mindanao. The commitment expressed by leaders and stakeholders at the event sends a strong signal that Mindanao is on track to meet its renewable energy targets and play a leading role in the Philippines’ clean energy transition.
