The Ateneo de Davao University co-hosted the Academic Key Sectoral Consultation on “Principles for Peace: Accompaniment of the Bangsamoro Peace Process” alongside the Mindanao State University System on November 18, 2023. This event was established by the Principles for Peace Foundation and organized by the Initiatives for International Dialogue.
The University Presidents of both Ateneo de Davao University, Fr. Karel San Juan, SJ, and Mindanao State University System, Atty. Basari Mapupuno were in attendance at the event. Other guests and attendees also included representatives from Notre Dame University of Cotabato, Ateneo de Manila University, academic representatives from Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, CSO representatives, and former lawmakers.
Brought upon by the strong general opinion of the Principles for Peace Southeast Asia launch attendees last July 11, 2023, in Davao City, this sectoral consultation was held to secure the success and implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB). The main objective of the event was to identify the current initiatives, issues, and challenges that are shared in accompanying the Bangsamoro Peace Process and to propose commitments, action plans, and work modalities as a sector for the coming years.
The Bangsamoro feedback loop mechanism was introduced during the consultation. This mechanism focuses on overseeing the state of the Bangsamoro peace process by assessing the different stakeholders’ current and future strategies and actions toward achieving the peace process’s stated goals.
The consultation proved to be successful, and the conveners were open to working alongside the process for continued Peace in Mindanao for the next few years. They nominated the core conveners to attend the covenants signing of the sectors in Manila on December 7, 2023.
