The Chemistry Department of Ateneo de Davao University, in partnership with the Philippine Federation of Chemistry Societies (PFCS), will hold the 7th National Children’s On-the-Spot Chemistry Poster Competition on February 18.
It is open to students from Grades 4 to 7. The competition will be at the Thibault Building, 5th Floor, Room T502, Ateneo de Davao University Jacinto Campus.
This activity aims to give young people an early exposure to science and elicit their understanding of the role of chemistry in everyday life. This competition is done during the celebration of the National Chemistry Week.
The theme for the 2017 contest is “Chemistry for Peaceful Use”. This theme is aligned with the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
Three local winners will be chosen and the winning posters will be forwarded to PFCS in Manila. Three of the entries will be chosen as the national winners.
The national winning posters will be exhibited during the 32nd Philippine Chemistry Congress in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on June 2017. The 1st place national winner will have a chance to go to Palawan and receive the award all expenses paid. Cash prizes will also be given to all local and national winners.
Last year, the 2nd place national winner was Nico Jade Ates from F. Bangoy Central Elementary School. His award was received by a representative from Ateneo de Davao University during the congress in Iloilo City. The said award and cash prize of PhP 5,000.00 was awarded to Nico in the presence of his mentor and family by the Chemistry Department chair, Dr. Agnes Aranas.
This is the 5th time the Ateneo de Davao University Chemistry Department hosted the competition.
